I heard a story on NPR the other day about a new iPhone game that encourages you to get out and move by pretending that zombies are chasing you. I must admit that it sounded a little hokey until I tried it.
Because I’m enjoying walking more and more, I spent the $7.99 on this app. In the first level, you’re on a helicopter that goes down in zombie-infested woods. With a partially-functional radio, the base can communicate with you, though you can’t radio back to them. The communications operator at the base provides periodic updates on your journey over your own music that plays in the background. With GPS or accelerometer-based tracking, the game knows how fast you’re moving and just how to encourage you to move a little faster.
So far, I’m enjoying the game. Once I get in a bit deeper, I’ll be able to tell you if it’s really worth the $8.
