At 448 pounds, getting out of the car, crossing the street to the weight control clinic, and making it to the sign-in desk was the extent of my physical activity on Thursdays. I planned my days to include minimal exertion. When I was told that I’d have to exercise at least 30 minutes a day, I believed it to be impossible. One of the resources that helped me when I first stared out is called “Active at Any Size.”
This website, hosted by the Weight-Control Information Network (part of the National Institutes of Health), provides wonderful getting started tips for folks of any size who want to become physically active. From tips to overcoming barriers, sample activities for very large people, safety tips, and an activity journal to a toll-free hotline to call, this site has it all.
