Routines have become so important to me in getting on track and staying on track with weight loss. Whether it’s planning my meals using the exchange system, preparing my meals based on my plans the night before, making sure my gym bag is stocked, or going to the clinic and class every week, it’s the routines that keep me going. I’ll share some of my routines if you’ll share some of yours.
Each trip to the gym requires fresh shorts, a t-shirt, socks, underwear, a hand towel, and a bath towel. In my gym bag I also keep flip-flops, athletic shoes, a lock, headphones, a comb, and a bottle of shampoo.
As soon as I get home, I empty the daily items, air out my flip flops, and move on to other activities such as meal planning or cooking. As my last activity of the day, I re-pack my now-dry flip-flops, and pack a fresh shirt, shorts, towels, socks, and underwear. I drop the bag by the door so I’ll be sure to take it with me on my way out the next morning.
Although it’s simple, this routine ensures that I’ll always have what I need when I get to the gym. It eliminates excuses. It makes me prepared.
