One of the best parts of the UAMS Program for Weight Loss and Metabolic Control is that once you’re in, you’re in. I cycled through the 16-week weight loss program so many times I lost count. Once you’ve attended each of the classes at least once, are within sight of your goal, and have been released by the doctor, you’re eligible for the weight maintenance program. Like the weight loss program, once you’re in the maintenance program, you’re in. I just started my second cycle in the program this week.
Maintenance really is where the rubber meets the road. You learn strategies and skills to enable you to not only finish losing weight, but to maintain that weight loss for the long term. Under the guidance of a registered dietitian, you explore the aisles of a grocery store, learn to portion foods, dine out at a restaurant, and work on meal and snack planning. The first cycle through maintenance was essential for me. I know my second trip will be equally as beneficial, because now I know what I don’t know… ya know?
