Daniel, your blog is amazing. I enjoy reading your posts. You are a big inspiration for this first week participant of the UAMS diet. I’m looking forward to celebrating milestones along the way and certainly enjoy reading about your success. Keep up the good work!

    • Thank you so much for the comment, Susie! Week 1 can be difficult for so many reasons — you’re starting something completely different, your body is adjusting to a new source of fuel, you’ll have cravings for things you’re accustomed to eating, etc. Plan each day the night before, stick to your plan, and keep with the program. You can do this, and one day I’ll be reading your blog 😉

      PS: Drink lots of water

I have been thru the program and have “fallen off” the last couple of months after loosing 77lbs. I seemed to have lost my motivation and not sure why. After reading your story you have sparked the hope again. I know I need to get back in it mentally and I am working on that. I am following your blog and hope to keep reading more great stuff. Good luck in your journey…maybe Ill see you along the way!

I just started the program and yerterday was my first day on the MR’s. OMG! It really takes some adjusting. I know that it takes some getting used to so I am tenaciously pressing through. Hopefully, when I start to see results, this won’t be as challenging. I have yet to be successful with a recipe that calls for baking, I’m great with the shakes but sometimes I want to chew on something. I’ll keep following your blog for motivation and inspiration.

    • You’ll get the hang of it! A quick and easy baked good is what I call the one-minute muffin. Take one chocolate meal replacement, one packet of Splenda, and enough water to make a cake batter. Put that into a coffee cup and microwave it 60-90 seconds until it’s done in the middle.

The first two weeks are the hardest, but please stick with it! Measure your arm dimensions, your thigh dimensions, your hips, and your waist. Keep a pair of your pants. When you want to see why you’re putting forth this effort, measure yourself against your starting size.

This is the best blog I have ever seen! It is so inspirational and motivating. I am only about 7 weeks into my transformation and have a long way to go. It’s great to read through all of your progress from the start to where you are now at. Please keep it up and keep the posts coming! You are an inspiration to all of us that are in the transformation process!

Hi Daniel! I haven’t dug through all the information on your blog yet, but have already used some of your information! I can’t thank you enough for sharing! I am in week 7 and there are many pros and cons to the program, but I can honestly say the rewards are piling up! I admire your openness and your strength! I do have one question. I am close to half way (with full intention of signing on for maintenance) but I am already nervous about what happens when I start eating on my own again. I don’t want to revisit where I already am. Did you feel nervous about it?

    • Daniel says:

Of course! Take gradual steps. Go from meal replacements, fruits, and vegetables to that and a small meal. Next, add in a snack. At each phase, get comfortable with planning, prepping, and portioning. The dietitians are wonderful and will help you at every turn.

Have been reading and researching a lot about weight loss plans. I do not have the will power obviously to Just Say No to real food. Really considering this program as a beginning to a new way of life.

Wow!! I just happened upon your blog when I saw your teachers name was Brooklyn, I went digging more and realized you were local. I am also on the UAMS program (started Thursday in Srdan’s class) and currently work in a local school. Getting back and all the teacher lounge treats are going to be hard!! I plan to read your blog “cover to cover” now. Thanks for sharing the “reality” of this journey.
